Local and dynamic analysis of Internet multicast router topology
نویسنده
چکیده
We study data on routers topology gathered using IGMP messages. Although this mechanism is limited to multicast routers we show that it allows getting precise information on the local topology of routers. This information is difficult to obtain with classical tools based on traceroute. Moreover its low cost allows to frequently collect data and to study the dynamics of this topology.

Small-world characteristics of Internet topologies and implications on multicast scaling
Recent work has shown that the physical connectivity of the Internet exhibits small-world behavior. Characterizing such behavior is important not only for generating realistic Internet topology, but also for the proper evaluation of large-scale content delivery techniques. Along this line, this paper tries to explain how the small-world behavior arises in the Internet topologies and how it impa...

متن کاملSmall-World Internet Topologies Possible Causes and Implications on Scalability of End-System Multicast
Recent work has shown the prevalence of small-world phenomena [28] in many networks. Small-world graphs exhibit a high degree of clustering, yet have typically short path lengths between arbitrary vertices. Internet AS-level graphs have been shown to exhibit small-world behaviors [9]. In this paper, we show that both Internet AS-level and routerlevel graphs exhibit small-world behavior. We attr...

متن کاملA Comparison of Incremental Deployment Strategies for Router-Assisted Reliable Multicast
Several reliable multicast schemes using router assistance have been proposed recently, which not only promise performance gains, but also simplify applications. Since they require network assistance, the effectiveness of such schemes degrades if the deployment of the required network services is sparse, meaning that an effective deployment strategy is critical. In this paper we study the perfo...
